A remarkable true story retold – Saturday 21 August at 3pm
Angela Lawrence will discuss her compelling book ‘Rumour’, on a return visit to Wangford in August. Her book not only chronicles the tragic story of two lives lost to rumour, but it also exposes the behaviour of those in power. William Smith, the much loved Headmaster at Henham and Wangford School was wrongly accused of spying at the beginning of the First World War and is now interred with his wife Alma in the churchyard at St Peter and St Paul in Wangford. It is fitting therefore that Angela Lawrence’s talk will take place here in the church that William and Alma Smith once attended. Attendance will be free, with a retiring collection to contribute towards the restoration of William and Alma Smith’s grave in the churchyard. After the talk there will be refreshments and copies of the book available for purchase.

Suffolk Churches Ride & Stride/Pedal & Drive 2021Saturday 11 September Full details are now available for the several thousand cyclists and walkers of all ages and drivers of vintage and classic cars who will take part in the annual fundraising event. In 2020 £190,000 was raised in a day.  The money they raise help save this wonderful part of our history, with half going to the Trust to give out as grants for church buildings, and half to the cyclists’/walkers’ chosen church.   Also, on the same day, a vintage and classic car rally is held with cars travelling a provided route, around a selection of churches.   Sponsor forms and full details for Ride and Stride and Pedal and Drive are now available in Suffolk churches and from the Trust website. Donations and sponsorship can also be collected via Just Giving.  Please visit:
