Team News 26 January

Posted on by Tania Birtwistle

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January each year (the day Auschwitz was liberated) and is a time to remember the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.  The poignancy of being able to use St Felix School as the venue for this event is because on 21 December 1938, two hundred Kindertransport boys from Eastern Europe were temporarily housed at St Felix to escape the Nazi persecution.  The day begins at 11.30am and includes speakers who will talk about the Holocaust and Kindertransport,  and the Rwandan Genocide.  The day will end at 1.15pm with the Kaddish Prayer, traditionally recited as  part of Jewish funeral and memorial services and with Klezmer music provided by the Band ‘Klezmerized’.  Klezmer music originated in the Jewish ghettos of Eastern Europe and is known for its soulful and beautiful tunes.  This event is proving to be very popular. You are welcome just to come along on the day but for further details please contact Chris Ure (email: or by telephone on 725793) or Rev Alan Perry
