‘Back to the Garden’ – a concert by the Village Quire, Thursday 29 October in aid of Sole Bay Team funds. The Village Quire sings unaccompanied West Gallery music – folk harmony in the style found in rural parishes in the 18th century. In those days it was the same singers in the pub on Saturday night, in the church gallery on Sunday morning and out on the land all the other hours God sent. They will be presenting their programme ‘Back to the Garden’, based on letters from the trenches in the First World War, in Holy Trinity Blythburgh at 7.30pm on Thursday 29 October. Tickets are £8, available from Southwold Tourist Information Centre or on the door. Interval drinks will be on sale. This should be a very special evening, so do come along!
The Sole Bay Team Ministry-Annual All Soul’s Service – Sunday 1st November 3pm, St.Margaret’s Church, Reydon Every year on or near All Souls Day, churches hold special services of remembering. These provide an opportunity for people to come and remember their loved ones. It is equally appropriate for people who lost a loved one a long time ago or very recently. The service will last about an hour and it will be simple, quiet and peaceful. We will read out the names of those to be remembered and you will be invited to light a candle to their memory if you wish. Please tell other members of your family, your friends and neighbours and invite them all to come along. It is a time for quiet reflection and peace.
An Invitation to Women in the Church – On Tuesday 3rd November you are invited to afternoon tea at the Swan Hotel in Southwold. We meet from 3pm until 5pm Rev Rosalind Paul, Vicar of Higham, Holton St Mary, Raydon and Stratford St Mary will speak about “Inspirational Women in the early church.” Afternoon tea is £7.50, including tea, cakes, scones and biscuits. BANKS is a drama about Walt Disney’s attempts to acquire the film rights to the ‘Mary Poppins’ stories in the face of opposition from their author, P.L. Travers.
Advent Study Group starting in November: You are invited to join a four week study group looking at St Luke’s Gospel. The Gospel of St Luke will be the one from which most of our Sunday Gospel readings will be chosen next year. This is an introductory course using the Diocesan “Living Faith in Suffolk” material, which can be found on the Diocesan website. One group will be led by Rev Simon Pitcher, meeting at Southwold Vicarage at 2pm on Tuesday afternoons, 17th and 24th November and 1st and 8th of December. The second group will be led by Ann Pooley and Jane Ackroyd meeting at Jane’s house, 7 Hotson Road at 3pm on Wednesdays 18th and 25th November, and 2nd and 9th of December.
